Moving into a new home? Or just looking for décor inspiration? We have some tips – and shopping ideas – to help you with that.
1. Focus Down
Looking for a way to make a statement with a room? If your home is done up in neutral shades, a good way to introduce color and texture is by way of an intricately designed good rug. It will immediately lift your space, even more than a painting on the wall would.
2. Pick Classic
A sofa is likely to be one of your most expensive purchases, so pick a classic, timeless style that can easily be re-upholstered when you’re ready for a new look. A high-quality sofa should last around 25 years.
3. Raise the Curtains
Use good-quality fabrics or drapes because this is one area where the difference really shows. A popular trend these days is layered treatment. Blackout shades are placed behind the sheer shades, while still keeping the look delicate and light.
4. Sink In
If you are going to splurge, do it on the one space where you will spend about one-third of your life – the bedroom. Try out different mattresses to find out what suits you best, and never compromise on comfort. Ideally, a mattress should neither be too soft nor too firm and should be able to keep your spine in the correct posture while you are sleeping.
5. Think Luxe
Instead of buying bulky silk bedspreads that you may regret later, opt for something equally luxe like microfibre, which you can wash at home without the hassle of having to get it dry-cleaned every couple of weeks. Pick a comforter to match your bedsheets.
6. Count Threads
The difference between a bedsheet and a good bedsheet is in the thread count. Anything with a thread count between 600 and 1,000 could cost more, but is well worth the money.
